One of the talented, young receivers in the league just signed a new deal. Stefon Diggs signed a 5-year extension to remain with the Vikings for the foreseeable future. The deal is for $81 million that includes more than $40 million in guaranteed money. Diggs finished the 2017 season with 64 catches for 849 yards to go along with 8 touchdowns. He has 200 receptions for 2,472 yards and 15 touchdowns in 40 career games. In 2016, he was a steal in my Fantasy league as he was my last pick but put up a lot of points. The new contract for Diggs, whose final season on his rookie deal is for $1.9 million, dwarfs the one signed by Vikings receiver Adam Thielen last March.
It also makes Diggs the sixth NFL receiver to get a deal worth an average of $16 million per season, but the only one of that group yet to put up a 1,000-yard season. Thielen, who led the Vikings with 91 receptions and 1,276 yards last season, signed a four-year, $22 million extension that included $10 million guaranteed. Diggs and Thielen combined for 2,125 receiving yards last season, which ranked third in the NFL behind Antonio Brown and JuJu Smith-Schuster of the Steelers (2,450) and Julio Jones and Mohamed Sanu of the Falcons (2,147). Diggs, coming off a career year in which he led all receivers in contested catch rate (64.5 percent), has steadily climbed the ranks and earned his place among the league’s top wide receivers. You also may remember him from being on the receiving end of the Minneapolis Miracle that sent them to the NFC Championship Game.
What do you think about the new contract for Diggs? Is he one of the more promising WRs in the NFL? Do you think the Vikings are poised to make a Super Bowl run this year? Leave a comment below.
