After what seemed like forever, college football has finally returned, and it starts with a bang. Welcome to my 2018 College Football Predictions Week 1 of what should be another great season. Alabama is coming off another championship after an improbable comeback against SEC foe, Georgia. They enter this season with a QB controversy and with a #1 ranking in the preseason poll. Georgia, Ohio State and Oklahoma will try to make another run to the playoffs this season. Urban Meyer will be serving a 3-game suspension to open the season. Oklahoma will be beginning their run without Baker Mayfield as he’s now with the Cleveland Browns. Georgia will be the favorite to win the SEC East, but they have plenty of holes to fill on both sides of the ball. Labor Day weekend will feature 5 great games between Saturday and Monday.
We kick things off with the Chick-Fil-A Classic in the Mercedes Benz Stadium. It will feature the only top-10 matchup as the 6th ranked Washington Huskies face the 9th Auburn Tigers. The Huskies are favorites to come out of the Pac-12 and possibly make a playoff run. They will have to make this run without one of their all-time school greats in Luke Falk. By making this cross country trip, will this give Washington a disadvantage? On the other hand, Auburn lost quite a bit from last year’s team also. Auburn finished last season on a 2-game losing streak after a great un where they defeated Georgia and Alabama. Jarrett Stidham is an early Heisman favorite and he could have a great game. I’m going with Auburn to use this sort of home-field advantage to beat the Huskies. Auburn Wins 31-21
14th ranked Michigan Wolverines will travel to face their longtime foe, 12th ranked Notre Dame Fighting Irish. Michigan is looking to get back to dominance as Jim Harbaugh enter his 4th season. After starting his tenure off with a bang, the Wolverine fans are wanting results. By all indications, Harbaugh is comfortable and happy with this team. Can they travel to and upset this tough Fighting Irish team to open the season? Notre Dame is one of the teams that many experts think can make a run to the playoffs this season. Wimbush will take the helm for the Fighting Irish in this tough game. I’m going with the Fighting Irish to take care of home against their rival. Notre Dame Wins 27-24
The final game on Saturday we’re featuring will be Louisville Cardinal facing the top-ranked Crimson Tide. Louisville will begin the season with a new QB after Lamar Jackson went to the NFL. While the Cardinal was known for their offense, the defense isn’t bad and very underrated. Will they have enough to stop the top-ranked team in the country? How will the offense play with a new QB against one of the toughest defenses in the country? Who will begin the season as the starting QB for the Crimson Tide? It doesn’t matter who starts as Alabama will dominate the Camping World Classic and beat Louisville. Alabama Wins 38-21
Sunday night we have a treat as the 8th ranked Miami Hurricanes will battle the 25th ranked LSU Tigers in Jerry’s World. The 8th ranked Hurricanes are one of the favorites to come out of the ACC. Miami is hoping to continue to build on their success from a season ago. Mark Richt got the Hurricanes headed in the right direction and could be title contenders this year. Miami should have one of the better defenses in the country and we’ll see the return of the Turnover Chain. LSU has always been one of the tougher teams in the country. Joe Burrow will start for LSU and will have a tough task against Miami. I’m rolling with the Hurricane to win this tough and physical game. Miami Wins 24-17
On Monday night, we have a key ACC match-up as Virginia Tech will take on Florida State. Josh Jackson returns at the helm for Virginia Tech. The Hokies had a lot of issues with their team throughout the off-season which included the dismissal of two defensive stars. With all that said, the Hokies are hoping to replace the stars that was dismissed. Can the Virginia Tech Hokies travel to Tallahassee and beat the Seminoles? Florida State start the Willie Taggart Era. The Florida State Seminoles will meet one of their longtime rivals from the ACC. The Seminoles named Deondre Francois to be their starting QB. Can the Seminoles offensive line hold up against the Hokies defensive line? I’m going with the Seminoles to barely edge the Hokies. Florida State Wins 31-27
