Welcome to Week 3 of the college football season and check the new rankings while you’re at it. Last week, my record was 4-0, which included a major upset that I picked. Michigan State went to the dessert and lost to the Arizona State Sun Devils. My overall record jumped to 7-2 and my winning percentage is 77.8%. There will be three games with ranked teams facing off against each other. This week I’ll be predicting four games with the hopes of continuing my great run from last week.
We kick things off in the SEC West between two top-15 teams. The 12th ranked LSU Tigers will head to Auburn and face the 7th ranked Tigers. LSU surprised everyone when they beat down the Miami Hurricanes during the opening weekend. The offense still has a way to go, but the defense looked like a typical dominating defense. Could LSU be headed back to dominance they once were, or will Auburn bring them down to earth? Auburn opened their season with a hard-fought win over the Washington Huskies. Jarrett Stidham is still looked at as one of the top tier QBs in the nation and this is another test. Auburn is one of the toughest places to win and I think they’ll emerge the victors in this one.
Auburn Wins 31-20
We have another top-15 matchup, but these teams are from two different conferences. The 4th ranked Ohio State Buckeyes travel to Texas and Jerry’s World to battle the 15th ranked TCU Horned Frogs. Ohio State hasn’t been battled tested as they’ve blown out their first two opponents. This will be the final game without Urban Meyer, but it’ll definitely will be the toughest. Can the Buckeyes win one more before their coach return? TCU is looking for that program boosting win, and this could be the one they need. The Horned Frogs have had one of the tougher defenses in their conference, but can they contain the Buckeye offense? This should be a tough game, but I’m thinking Ohio State pulls away in the end.
Ohio State Win 33-24
We have another battle between top-25 teams as the 17th ranked Boise State Broncos face the 24th ranked Oklahoma State Cowboys. Boise State come out of the gate scoring 118 points in their first two games. Of course, those teams were Troy and UConn. Boise State is looked at as a team that could surprise many by reaching the playoffs. Brett Rypien is probably the best unknown QB in the country, but can he lead the Broncos to the huge road win? Oklahoma State has put up 113 points in two games against less than stellar opponents. This will be their first big test since losing their two big stars to the NFL. Oklahoma State is another tough place to play, but I’m going with the upset here and picking the Broncos.
Boise State Win 34-31
This could be one of the more underrated matchups of this college football weekend. The top-ranked Alabama Crimson Tide will be visiting the Ole Miss Rebels in a key SEC West contest. Alabama come into this game with their offense looking as good as it has ever been. Tua Tagovailoa is the real deal and he has that offense clicking on all cylinders. Can he continue his great play on the road in Oxford? Ole Miss got one of the most potent offenses in the country. They also turn things up a notch whenever they play at home. Ole Miss has upset Alabama before at home under the lights, can they do it again? Can the Rebels pull off the huge upset over the defending champs? I’m rolling with the Tide to pull away in the end to beat Ole Miss.
Alabama Win 41-31
