Welcome to the biggest party of the summer and that’s SummerSlam. Coming into this event, we’ve had some good builds for most of the matches. Brock Lesnar finally returned and will defend his Universal Championship Against Roman Reigns. A.J. Styles will put his WWE Championship on the line against his old foe, Samoa Joe. We saw the return of Dean Ambrose as he’ll be in the corner Seth Rollins as he battles Dolph Ziggler for the Intercontinental title. Jeff Hardy will try to regain his United States Championship from Shinsuke Nakamura. Ronda Rousey will battle Alexa Bliss for the Raw Women’s Championship. Carmella defend the SmackDown Live Women’s title Against Becky Lynch and Charlotte Flair. In one of the most anticipated matches, which is 8 years in the making, Daniel Bryan battles the Miz. Let’s see how I think things will unfold.
We’ll start things off with the SmackDown Live Tag Team Title Match. The Bludgeon Brothers have held the titles for a minute now, but have they elevated the titles? It could be the booking or they’re just that damn dominating. New Day is as hot as ever and haven’t sniffed the belts in a while. This match could go either way and I think the long term plan for the titles is to eventually have them and The Usos battle again. With that being said, don’t be surprised to see a title change right here. Winners and New SmackDown Live Tag Team Champs: New Day
We have the United States Championship match as Shinsuke Nakamura defends against Jeff Hardy. Until the last couple of weeks, it was all about Randy Orton and Jeff Hardy, which is surprising that he was added. Does that mean Orton won’t get involved somehow? Of course, he’ll get involved and don’t be surprised he cost Hardy the title in this one. Winner and Still United States Champ: Shinsuke Nakamura
This match is for the Money in the Bank briefcase as Braun Strowman battles Kevin Owens. Jinder Mahal has been Owens sidekick since Sami Zayn is sidelined with a shoulder injury. Braun Strowman will eventually get his hands on the Universal Championship, but will it be with the briefcase? Honestly, he doesn’t need to sneak and beat someone to capture the title, but I can see him still with the briefcase in his possession. Winner: Braun Strowman
We have the Cruiserweight Championship match as Cedric Alexander defends against Drew Gulak. Cedric Alexander has held in the title for a long time as he’s a good champ. Gulak is a very physical wrestler, who’s really good. With the rise of Lio Rush, I’m thinking Alexander keeps the title a while longer until Rush challenges him. Winner and Still Cruiserweight Champ: Cedric Alexander
We have Ronda Rousey vying for her first championship in the WWE as she battles Alexa Bliss for the Raw Women’s Championship. Many have asked the question, is it too soon for Rousey to walk away with a major championship over four months after her WrestleMania debut? We all know that Alicia Fox will probably be lurking, and we don’t know the status of Natalya after her father passed away. This match should have its share of interference and if Natalya isn’t there, then Ember Moon could help out Rousey. If Natalya is there, she’ll cost Rousey the championship, which will lead to their long-awaited feud. Winner and Still Raw Women’s Champ: Alexa Bliss
We have Dolph Ziggler defending his Intercontinental Championship against Seth Rollins, whom he won it from a couple months ago. This has been a great feud, but Rollins has been outnumbered as Drew McIntyre has gotten involved. This past Monday, we saw the return of Dean Ambrose to help out his former Shield partner. For this match, Ambrose will be in the corner of Rollins and McIntyre with Ziggler. This should be another outstanding match from these two, but you know that McIntyre and Ambrose will get involved. It may be time for Rollins to regain his championship from Ziggler, so that’s where I’m going for now. What if there’s a swerve and Ambrose turn on Rollins? Winner and New Intercontinental Champ: Seth Rollins
We have the triple threat match for the SmackDown Women’s Championship. Carmella defends against Becky Lynch and Charlotte Flair. At first, it was supposed to be Becky Lynch battling Carmella, but Flair returned to help Lynch after Carmella’s sneak attack. Paige set up a match between Carmella & Flair with Charlotte being added to the match if she won and she did just that. For this match, my focus is on Charlotte and Becky Lynch as it seems like one of them will turn on the other. For some reason, Carmella will find a way to leave with the title. On the other hand, Charlotte & Becky Lynch have planted seeds in a future feud between these two. If I were to bet, Lynch snaps and goes off on Charlotte and turning heel for the first time in the WWE. Winner and Still SmackDown Women’s Champ: Carmella
This is a match that I never thought I’d see in a WWE ring, let alone a WWE Championship between these two. A.J. Styles defends his Championship against fellow TNA original, Samoa Joe. After Styles beat Rusev, the following SmackDown Live, Paige said she would have a new #1 contender. As Styles were in the ring, Samoa Joe attacked him from behind, signed the contract and made it official. Ever since, these two have taken the personal route with Joe bringing Styles wife into it. Samoa Joe is getting in the head of Styles, which could be a factor in this match. If WWE give them the proper time and let them do their thing, this could be a great match. In the end, I’m predicting Samoa Joe to walk out of Brooklyn as the new WWE Champion. Winner and New WWE Champ: Samoa Joe
If you’re looking for the feud with the best buildup, then look no further than this matchup. The Miz and Daniel Bryan will finally square off against each other after that amazing series showed on the most recent edition of SmackDown Live. There is so much uncertainty in this match because we don’t know if Daniel Bryan has signed his contract extension. The contract of Daniel Bryan expires on September 1st and we know the WWE isn’t going to build up talent who’s not signed long term. We all can agree that this match will have the crowd going nuts and could easily be the main event. I’m going with Daniel Bryan picking up the win over the Miz. Winner: Daniel Bryan
Finally, we have Lesnar/Reigns IV and the crowd isn’t going to like it. A few weeks back, we saw Brock Lesnar snap, then hit the F-5 to Kurt Angle and turn on Paul Heyman. Last week, we learned it was all a plot by Heyman as Lesnar destroyed Reigns after Heyman sprayed something in his eyes. If Reigns were to lose to Lesnar again, how would he be able to get momentum back from it? Is Lesnar destined for the UFC at the beginning of the year? Is Lesnar even under contract past SummerSlam? Either way, expect a very physical matchup between these two. I’m predicting Reigns to finally beat Brock, but he won’t leave as the WWE Champ. Braun Strowman takes advantage of Reigns after he’s been severely beat down and cash in the briefcase to leave Brooklyn as the Universal Champ. Winner and New Universal Champ: Braun Strowman
Are you ready for SummerSlam? What match are you looking forward to? What match will steal the show? What do you think about my predictions?
