With the NFL season less than two weeks away, anticipation is starting to build up. Previously, the AFC East Division was previewed and now it’s time for the NFC East. As we all know, the Philadelphia Eagles won the Super Bowl last year. With the new season coming up, will any other team make a run at the division title held by the Eagles? Which team is poised to make a surprising run in the NFC this year? Let’s find out by checking out the season each team will have.
The Dallas Cowboys finished last season with a 9-7 record and barely missed the playoffs. This season they have Dak Prescott for his third season and Ezekiel Elliott for a complete season. Dallas will be without All-Pro WR Dez Bryant as he was released earlier in the year. With uncertainties about their Center Travis Kendrick is dealing with a disease that could keep him out multiple weeks of the season. The Cowboys picked up Allen Hurns from Jacksonville with the hopes of taking the place of Dez Bryant. Dallas will have a rough schedule, and everything will depend on the play of Prescott. The Dallas Cowboys will find themselves in the same position as year as they finish with a 9-7 record.
New York Giants
The New York Giants had one of their worse seasons in ages by finishing 3-13. By finishing with that record, New York used the 2nd overall pick to select Saquon Barkley. Last year, the Giants season was marked with injuries. Odell Beckham Jr. missed most of last season with a leg injury and he’ll be back 100%. Eli Manning has faced all sorts of criticism for his play in recent years. Can Manning rebound and help lead the Giants back to the playoffs? If the Giants defense can remain healthy, they can once again dominate as expected. If healthy, the Giants can challenge for the division crown and should make the playoffs again with a 11-5 record.
The Philadelphia Eagles are coming off a season where they won their first Super Bowl. They finished last season with a 13-3 record and before going down with a knee injury, Carson Wentz was the NFL MVP. The Eagles face so much uncertainty this season with all the injuries they have. Carson Wentz is still hoping to play Week 1 after injuring his knee. Brandon Graham is still hoping to return to regular action and we don’t know the status of Alshon Jeffrey. The Eagles added Michael Bennett to one of the better defenses in the league, but the secondary could still be an issue. With so many uncertainties, Philadelphia won’t have the same success this season and will finish with a 10-6 record.
The Washington Redskins finished the season with a disappointing 7-9 record. We knew changes were coming and that happen when they traded for Alex Smith. After two seasons of giving Kirk Cousins of going back and forth on signing Cousins long term that ended his term with the Redskins. Of course, he would go on to sign for a whopping $84 million with the Minnesota Vikings. With rookie RB being out for the season with a torn ACL, Washington signed Adrian Peterson. The heart and soul of this team may lie with the defensive line as they could be one of the better ones in the league, if healthy. If you’re a Washington fan, this could be a long season as I’m predicting they’ll finish with a 5-11 record.
My 2018-2019 NFC East Prediction
- New York Giants 11-5
- Philadelphia Eagles 10-6
- Dallas Cowboys 9-7
- Washington Redskins 5-11
